Mark Martinez

Director of Veteran Services

Mark Martinez is the Director of Veteran Services at Daemen University, which was recently recognized as a Military Friendly School for the 13th consecutive year. He joined the institution from D’Youville University, where he was Director of Veteran Student Support and Recruitment, and previously worked in student services at George Mason University. A decorated veteran, Martinez served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas and served two deployments in Iraq.

Message From The School

The Daemen University Nancy Haberman Gacioch (NHG) Center for Veterans welcomes students who are active-duty members, students who served in the armed services, and student dependents of military service members. The Center also provides career, vocational, and academic coaching and counseling. Daemen University has been selected for the ninth consecutive year as a Military Friendly School. The national designation is awarded to top colleges, universities, community colleges, and trade schools in the country that are doing the very best job to embrace student veterans and have dedicated resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation. If you are new to the area or have never visited Daemen University, please make an appointment to come in, take a tour, and get a feel for the campus, the facilities, and the Daemen Community. Daemen is located in Amherst, New York - recently named the #1 place to live in New York State by Money Magazine. The suburban location gives students the best of all possible worlds – a beautifully landscaped campus, a walkable village just a mile-and-a-half down the road, and easy access to the vibrant Buffalo-Niagara region. The region has an eclectic food scene, vibrant arts and cultural organizations, incredibly robust architecture, a variety of established and emerging industries. Our campus is approximately two hours from Toronto and a six-hour drive/one-hour flight to New York City. Daemen is easily accessible by major rail, plane, and motor routes. The Greater Buffalo International Airport, serviced by most major airlines, is just a fifteen-minute drive from the campus.

What we offer

Daemen offers undergraduate and graduate programs in:

  • Nursing 
    • RN to BS Program - students must have an RN to enroll in the Nursing RN to BS program. DU offers both Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. These are master's degree programs and students need to have a Bachelors in Nursing.
  • Business
    • Through the ABOVE program which is an online bachelor's degree completion program, designed for veterans or active duty military, Students transfer in up to 90 credits, CLEP some credits (up to 90), take some credits (up to 90) by test, then take the final 30 credits of the program online through Daemen to complete their bachelor's degree in business administration.
  • Social work
    • DU offers both a two-year graduate program for students with no social work background who want to become a social worker and a one-year graduate program for students with a bachelor's degree in social work. This course can be taken online or in person.
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) 
    • DU offers a master's degree in ABA. This program is designed for students who want to earn their New York State certification as a Behavior Analyst. New York State licensed behavior analysts assist those with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, behavioral disorders, emotional disturbances, or no diagnosis at all, to achieve individually developed goals, learn new skills, and improve challenging behavior.

Eligible students may have up to 100% of their tuition covered, with zero out-of-pocket costs. You will need to check with the school to ensure that your preferred advanced degree program is, in fact, covered by the Yellow Ribbon. 

Does Daemen University offer a military discount or reduced tuition rates for military and veterans?

Daemen University offers a $2,000 Leadership Grant that is applied directly to tuition to help lower costs.
