The School of the Museum of Fine Arts

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University is a studio arts school that offers degree and non-degree programs for students who are passionate about pushing boundaries and creating art that makes a difference. Mentored by faculty, staff, and the entire SMFA community, students design their own course of study without traditional majors. Through rigorous review board evaluations, they share their work and think deeply about the ideas that drive it.

Our world-class libraries, studios, and creative spaces offer wide-ranging opportunities for students to study and create. We are a vital part of Tufts University, deeply connected to the MFA, and collaborate closely with other area schools, galleries, and museums. These relationships create community and foster new academic, personal, and professional interests and opportunities.

Our students graduate as highly skilled artists and intellectual, curious critical thinkers. They go into the world as artists with purpose, creating work that shapes our culture, our society, and our future.
