Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets

The Corps of Cadets offers you leadership experiences you would expect from one of the nation’s six senior military colleges

The 1,100+ cadets are enrolled in any of Virginia Tech’s 110+ bachelor’s degree programs and have an opportunity to earn a minor in leadership studies from the Corps. They live in one of the Corps’ two residence halls and participate in the Corps’ 24/7 leader development program.

We offer two tracks based on your goals after graduation

  1. Military-Leader Track - Virginia Tech offers all ROTC programs
  2. Citizen-Leader Track - We aim to develop highly sought citizen-leaders with the character, confidence, and wellness necessary to lead successful lives in service to others.

Cadets have the flexibility to switch between ROTCs and the Military-Leader and Civilian-Leader tracks as their career goals change.

The Defense Civilian Training Corps is a NEW pilot program for students to build civilian careers in the Department of Defense (DoD).  This program is open to all students at VT with an interest in DoD careers related to acquisition, digital technologies, critical technologies, science, engineering, and finance.

Is Virginia Tech a GI Bill® approved school?

Yes, Virginia Tech is a GI Bill® approved school. All Virginia Tech bachelors, graduate and graduate certificate programs are approved. For more info, please contact veteran services and/or admissions here.

Is Virginia Tech a Yellow Ribbon school?

Yes. Virginia Tech is a Yellow Ribbon school. The Yellow Ribbon Program at Virginia Tech provides a total of 20 scholarships on a first-come, first-serve basis to out-of-state undergraduates who are utilizing Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits. The amount of the Virginia Tech Yellow Ribbon Scholarship is up to $2,500 for the academic year, or $1,250 each fall and spring semesters, of the unmet tuition and fees for each term. As the Department of Veterans Affairs will then match the contribution made by the institution, this scholarship could yield as much as $5,000 in total tuition and fees benefits per academic year for approved students.

Does Virginia Tech offer Yellow Ribbon for master’s programs?

No. At Virginia Tech, Yellow Ribbon is not applicable for graduate students using the Post 9/11 GI Bill® if they are living in Virginia. These students are charged at the in-state tuition and fee rate which may allow for 100% of their tuition and fees to be covered.  Additionally, if the graduate program has a fixed tuition rate, the Post 9/11 GI Bill® may cover 100% of the tuition and fees. 

Does Virginia Tech offer a military discount or reduced tuition rates for military and veterans?

Yes, Virginia Tech offers a $60 military discount on the application fee for students continuing their undergraduate education and a $75 application fee waiver for students continuing their graduate education.  The application fee is waived for student veterans.

What are Virginia Tech’s tuition rates for military and veterans?

At $475.75 per credit hour, Virginia Tech’s tuition rate for active military students exceeds the Tuition Rate assistance cap of $250 per hour. This means that the student may have out-of-pocket costs.  The out-of-state tuition rate is $1,248.25 per credit hour.

What are Virginia Tech’s online tuition rates for military and veterans?

At $475.75 per credit hour, Virginia Tech’s online tuition rate for the active military does exceed the Tuition Rate assistance cap of $250 per hour. This means that the student may have out-of-pocket costs.

Does Virginia Tech offer online degree programs?

Yes, Virginia Tech offers graduate degree programs online. 

Is Virginia Tech approved for Tuition Assistance?

Yes, Virginia Tech has been approved for tuition assistance. 

Eligible students may have up to 100% of their tuition covered, with zero costs out-of-pocket. You will need to check with the school to ensure that Tuition Assistance covers your preferred degree program.

Does Virginia Tech offer master’s programs covered by Tuition Assistance?

Yes, Virginia Tech has master’s degree programs covered by Tuition Assistance funding. 

Eligible active military students may have up to 100% of their tuition covered, with zero costs out-of-pocket.  You will need to check with the school to ensure that Tuition Assistance covers your preferred degree program.

Is Virginia Tech a military-friendly school?

Virginia Tech is considered military friendly. They feature a veteran counselor on campus, credit for military service, and in-state tuition rates for Post 9/11 GI Bill® beneficiaries. In addition, the school is approved for tuition assistance offering a reduced tuition rate for the military.

Is Virginia Tech a MyCAA school?

Virginia Tech is not a Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) approved school.
